The Campaign for De­mocracy, a human rights group based in Onitsha, Anambra State, has alleged that about 6,000 Igbo youths agitating for their rights have been killed by federal forces while no fewer than 800 are in de­tention in different prisons without trial. The group made the al­legation during a protest march in Anambra State over the alleged killings. The placard-carrying protesters moved from Up­per Iweka to Awka Road, Onitsha, even as the plac­ards read “Our sons are lan­guishing in detention with­out trial” and “Release Igbo youths now, CD tells FG”. Other placards also read “INEC please stop this evil tactics – CD,” “Please probe the killings of 6,000 Igbo youths,” and “Who is afraid of Anambra Central Sena­torial poll,” among others. They also urged the Fed­eral Government to release unconditionally, the na­tional coordinator of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB) leader, Mr Chidie­bere Onwudiwe.
