The Campaign for Democracy, a human rights group based in Onitsha, Anambra State, has alleged that about 6,000 Igbo youths agitating for their rights have been killed by federal forces while no fewer than 800 are in detention in different prisons without trial. The group made the allegation during a protest march in Anambra State over the alleged killings. The placard-carrying protesters moved from Upper Iweka to Awka Road, Onitsha, even as the placards read “Our sons are languishing in detention without trial” and “Release Igbo youths now, CD tells FG”. Other placards also read “INEC please stop this evil tactics – CD,” “Please probe the killings of 6,000 Igbo youths,” and “Who is afraid of Anambra Central Senatorial poll,” among others.
